BALLARAT MEMORIAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Our Development Program is a welcoming and supportive space for those beginning their musical journey. Members build confidence while learning the fundamentals of their instrument, developing music reading skills, and experiencing the enjoyment of playing together as an ensemble.
To make getting started easy, instruments are available for hire, removing the need for an immediate purchase. While individual lessons can be beneficial, they are not required—allowing each member to progress at a pace that suits them.
Whether you are trying music for the first time or returning after a break, the Development Program offers a friendly environment to learn, connect, and be part of a vibrant musical community.
We rehearse Monday nights from 5:30-6:30pm at Wilkinson Hall.
OUR MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Nicole Melton
Since 2021, Nicole has been serving as musical director of the Ballarat Memorial Development Program. Nicole began playing the cornet in the Maryborough City Brass Band and trumpet with the Central Goldfields Concert Band whilst still at school.
In continuing her love of musical direction and wanting to help others learn music, Nicole completed a conducting summer school course with the Australian Band and Orchestral Director’s Association in 2025 to further refine her skills. In previous years, Nicole has been a tutor at the Wimmera Music School in both brass and music theory. In addition to Nicole’s work as the MD of the Development Band, she also plays trumpet in both the Ballarat Memorial Concert Band and Barkly Street Concert Bands and cornet in both Ballarat City Brass and Eureka Brass.
